THE GAME: Cody Bellinger, Joc Pederson and Trayce Thompson hit home runs to give the Dodgers a 3-0 victory over the Oakland A’s on Monday night at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Ariz.
PITCHING REPORT: LHP Alex Wood was outstanding in his fourth Cactus League start of the spring. He struck out six of the first 12 batters he faced and seven in five scoreless innings. Wood will make one more start Saturday and is slotted in to start the season as the Dodgers’ No. 2 starter. “To start the season behind Clayton (Kershaw) is obviously a great honor,” Wood said. “To be on a team as good as we are and to throw second behind the greatest pitcher of our generation is pretty cool.” … RHP Kenley Jansen retired the side in order in his inning. … RHP J.T. Chargois struck out the side in his inning. In seven innings this spring, Chargois has allowed two hits and struck out nine.
HITTING REPORT: Bellinger and Pederson hit their home runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Thompson hit his first of the spring in the eighth. The Dodgers had just two other hits – both singles by Logan Forsythe.
DEFENSE REPORT: Trayce Thompson threw a runner out at third base on a single to right field in the fourth inning. The tag was made for the third out of the inning before the lead runner from second could touch home plate, negating the run.
UP NEXT: RHP Kenta Maeda is scheduled to start against the Oakland A’s (RHP Paul Blackburn) at HoHoKam Stadium in Mesa, Tuesday, 1 p.m. (SportsNet LA and 570 AM).
